Essential Movie Guide Goof!
Aloha!
The Creature from the
Black Lagoon dead?! No, it can't be! Believe it or not, but there are some
publications that are claiming that I am dead. After being set straight,
a recent publication from Titan Books, The Essential
Monster Movie Guide, wrote me apologies for their folly. Here is their
letter:
Dear Mr Chapman,
Titan Books was very
sorry to learn that we had made an error in our recently published The
Essential Monster Movie Guide concerning your biography, as it was certainly
not our intention to cause you or your fans any distress at all. Please
accept our apologies for this error.
The book contains over
350,000 words and we did check our facts as extensively as we possibly
could, and we naturally very much regret that this error made it into print.
However, you may be interested to know that the information came from a
number of sources. Our earliest one is the September 1991 issue of Science
Fiction Chronicle, which contains an obituary with all the same information
featured in our book. This was then repeated in the following year's Best
New Horror 3 and appeared in the actors and actresses section of a 1994
McFarland publication entitled Science Fiction, Horror & Fantasy Film
and Television Credits Supplement 2: Through 1993, written by Harris M.
Lentz. However, there will be another edition of our Movie Guide coming
out later this year, and we will obviously make sure the information is
corrected for this printing.
Once again, please accept
our apologies for this very unfortunate error.
Yours sincerely,
David Barraclough
Editorial Manager
Titan Books
That's OK, David. We're
always "dying" to read monster books anyway.
