Ben
Breaks His Hip!
9-3-01
While attending the Horrorfind convention in Baltimore on August 24, Ben broke
his hip. He was backing up while carrying a dealer table and his foot caught
on a carpet. He had replacement surgery on August 31, 2001 which was a success.
He has had physical therapy and used a cane for awhile. Ben is now 95% healed
and has been busy attending conventions.
9-16-01
Following is a report on Ben from his wife:
"Ben is finally home and resting comfortably. (sleeping right now) In fact, he
is in much better shape than I expected. He has lost about 15 lbs and has a nifty
new hair cut. HE LOOKS GREAT! Better than when he left..."
"Ben
refuses to use a walker - uses only a cane occasionally. He is really making
a remarkable
recovery! I really believe he IS the Creature From The Black Lagoon (indestructable!)"
"He
said he met wonderful people in Baltimore, the people on the diverted flight,
Red Cross personnel
in Lincoln, hotel staff, etc. Its been a real adventure for him for the
last 3 1/2 weeks!!!!"
"Tomorrow we are going
to our building's pool where he will exercise in the water. Monday (9-17)
he has an appointment at the VA Hospital. He is so determined to get "back
on the road" and plans to attend Chiller at the end of October!!!"
"Thank
you again for your concern. Ben has not opened any of his e-mail (over
100) I have been
opening for him. He returned to Hawaii the 14th (Friday) after spending
the night at the Clarion outside of SF airport .... would you believe the
same hotel he has stayed in twice before in connection with shows? UAL
put him up at the Clarion because his flight from Lincoln did not connect
in time for the flight from SF to Honolulu. Staying at the Clarion was
just a coincidence."
