Creaturefest 2002
From
November 8 - 10, 2002, Ben Chapman attended Creaturefest 2002 in Wakulla
Springs State Park where most of the Creature From the Black Lagoon footage
was shot. The 2002 Creaturefest was the second annual convention held
at the location. In the picture above, you will see Ginger Stanley who
was the double for Julie Adams who did the famous underwater ballet scenes
with the creature (see picture below of her swimming). Ben Chapman, and
Julie Adams are on the right. This year was the first time for Julie
and Ben to appear at the same conventions at the same time. They will
be appearing more frequently together in the future.
At left is the underwater
ballet sequence in the original film with Ginger Stanley and Ricou Browning
as the double for the Gillman. Her silhouette casts shadows on the Creature,
who mimics her actions. Stanley worked at Silver Springs as a public
relations officer, swimmer, and in-house model. She broke the record
for the longest underwater swim: 7 miles and three and a half hours.
A friend recharged her aqualung along the way. She later appeared in
Revenge of the Creature. She is now married and raised three daughters
in Florida. Her married name is now Hallowell.
Below you will find
other pictures from the event. Two are pictures of Ginger and Ben signing
autographs and the last one is a picture of a tour boat at the shooting
location from the original movie.
